Mindful Bouldering Coaching for Women
Hello, I'm Jess, a bouldering coach and qualified therapist in Cumbria. I'm passionate about integrating aspects of therapeutic thinking into climbing as I believe it provides experiences that both challenge us (mentally, emotionally and physically) and provide mindfulness, joy and bring fulfillment into our lives. I'm also incredibly passionate about bringing women together- so my work ultimately focuses on providing women orientated climbing sessions.
Climbing can be pretty therapeutic.. It invites us to be present, meaning we focus on the here and now over the past and future. We connect our mind and body as we problem solve and move at the same time. Climbing can also bring up feelings that are unwanted and unpleasant such as disappointment, worthlessness, failure and anxiety to name a few.
Workshops
Throughout the year, I will be adding a series of workshops that delve into the themes of compassion, failure, self narrative and comparison.
Compassion focused techniques caught my attention after several conversations with friends and colleagues. I then went on to read further and participate in workshops on the subject and found that everything I was learning taught me about my own mindsets which I was able to integrate into my personal climbing and when coaching others. I noticed that most of the women I spoke to could relate to some of the themes compassion focused techniques aimed to help with... and so I created the workshops for women.
The most beautiful thing to come out of these so far, is the coming together of like minded women who have offered their experiences and held the experiences of others in a safe, confidential and kind space.
These workshops run either once a month or fortnightly, for 4 sessions. They last for 3 hours with half of the time participating in classroom based activities and the other half on the wall, holding the theme of the session in our awareness as we climb.
Dates coming soon...
Session 1: Introduction to Self- Compassion: Get to know each other, introduce the emotional systems of threat, drive and soothe.
Session 2: Failure and self narrative: Understand what failure means to each of us, how we narrate that and how it might affect our climbing.
Session 3: Our inner critic: Spending time visualising our inner critic, what it says to us inside and outside of the sport and tackling it with our most compassionate selves.
Session 4: Comparison: Understanding social comparison, why we compare and compete.
